Beginner's Rag Rug Making Course
Making rag rugs is a North East institution from times gone by, especially amongst mining communities. Miner’s wives would spend hours sitting by the fire on an evening and at weekends, carefully re-purposing old clothes and rags to create beautiful rugs, giving old fabric a new lease of life. The original ‘up cycling’!
WORKSHOP - BLACKSMITH POPPY MAKING
Working with our in-house blacksmith Darren, come along and create your very own 3D steel poppy using traditional blacksmithing techniques. Learn how to heat and hammer sheet steel in our traditional forge, creating steel petals and a stem, which will then be welded together to create your very own inspired blacksmithed poppy.
Hallowe'en fused glass workshops
Come along and celebrate the season of witches and ghouls in style this October here MBC Arts Wellbeing on Norfolk Street, Sunderland. Working with specialist glass artist Jayne Johnson you’ll get the chance to create your very own inspired Hallowe’en pumpkin, ghoul, skull or witch window decoration.
WORKSHOP - CHRISTMAS WREATH MAKING
Dress your door to welcome in Christmas with our festive wreath workshop. Join our very own trained florist Frances, who will take you step by step through how to create your own wreath from scratch, starting with mossing up the frame, adding fresh holly and festive greenery, and decorating with finishing touches such as beautiful dried fruits, coloured ribbon, and pine cones.
WORKSHOP - FUSED GLASS HALLOWE'EN DECORATIONS
It’s that time of year again – toffee apples, witches, wizards and brews, apple bobbing, hocus pocus, goblins, ghouls, and watching spooky movies after sun set. Get into the spooky ‘spirit’ of the season here at MBC Arts Wellbeing – working with our in-house Undead glass artist Jayne, come along and create your own terrifying fused glass Hallowe’en creations.

Learn how to create professional grade natural reed diffusers using the finest essential oils and all eco-solvents. Your take-home 100ml diffusion is presented in a beautiful and natural wood and cork stoppered bottle and includes the bamboo diffuser reeds.

Discover the ancient art of natural perfumes and learn how to produce professional grade Eau de Parfum on this hands-on creative course led by William from William's Organics.
WORKSHOP - LIQUID SOAP FROM SCRATCH
Working with the fabulous William from William's Naturals, discover the art of creating your very own deliciously fragranced liquid soaps, and make 2 litres (yes 2 litres!) of soap per person to take away at the end of the session. That's plenty to keep you going!
WORKSHOP - NATURAL DEODORANT BARS AND SPRAYS
Parabens and aluminium chloride are the source of a lot of controversy around breast cancer. During this session, learn how to create two different natural deodorants - a solid and a spray - avoiding the long list of nasties included in most commercially available deodorants.
BEGINNERS FLORISTRY COURSE
Join our professional and experienced florist Frances on this fun and hands-on beginner’s floristry course that will teach you all the basics of beautiful flower arranging. This course is open to everyone to enroll onto, regardless of where you live and even if you have done one of our courses before.
Working with our in-house blacksmith Darren, come along and try your hand at our traditional forge where you can create your own stunning metalware to bring home. Darren hosts a variety of year-round and seasonal workshops where many would be black smiths have made items such as Remembrance Day Poppies, Christmas baubles, Valentines Kissing Horseshoes, bottle openers, knives and many other exciting items for both decorative and practical purposes.
