About the Event
With special thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are delighted to bring you this fun-filled and informative Ancient Roman inspired cooking class, which will take place at MBC Arts Wellbeing.Â
During these incredible workshops we will be working with an expert food historian who will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and provide you with a greater understanding of the Ancient Roman diet. The food historian will bring you a sample of dishes reminiscent of the Roman era. You will have the opportunity to sample a range of foods eaten by the Ancient Roman's, where your taste buds will transport you to another time and place.Â
As the Roman's moved throughout Europe and settled in Northumberland, they brought with them a variety of materials, tools, armour and foods, all of which still influences us today. This workshop will incorporate the European influences on our dishes, particularly those from Spain, as a lot of Spanish soldiers settled in Northumberland, and together everyone will create dish with a modern twist on Ancient Roman dishes including Roman Inspired meatballs, cock-a-leekie soup, fritatas, spiced chickpeas & spinach, lentils, flatbreads, soda bread, butter and chutney.Â
Once you have created and cooked these dishes, you will be able to sit down with others on the workshop and share the foods you have created. Furthermore, throughout the session you will be involved in a discussion that explores reducing the food miles of the food we purchase, shopping locally, buying seasonal foods and growing your own vegetables.Â
Please note, you must be aged 16+ to take part in these workshops.Â
