About the Event

With thanks to funding from Sunderland Coalfields SIB Board, we are delighted to be able to offer this wonderful Flowers in Homes course to people in the Coalfields area, which includes areas such as Houghton-le-Spring, Hetton-le-Hole, Shiney Row, Easington Lane, Copt Hill and surrounding areas.

We will be training a small group of volunteers in basic flower arranging - these volunteers will become our Community Ambassadors. We will then launch a targeted social media campaign on Facebook across the Coalfields area, asking people who see our ad to refer someone they know who is socially isolated - maybe they are a carer, housebound, or don't get out of the house much, or have low confidence or mental health issues.

One of our Community Ambassadors will then pop round to the home of the person who has been referred, with a lovely bunch of flowers and a card giving that person information on the great range of local services they can access to help make new friends, get out and about, and access community transport as well as mental health services.

The best bit? It's completely free! We are now looking for Community Ambassador volunteers to learn some floristry tips and help make the deliveries - and we will be looking for referrals soon, too. Taking part in this project will help improve the lives of socially isolated people and carers in the Coalfields area of Sunderland, and it will be a truly rewarding experience for you, as you will learn a new skill, improve your own wellbeing and better the lives of those in receipt of the bouquets you have created.
