About the Event
FREE INTERMEDIATE CERAMICS COURSE FOR SUNDERLAND RESIDENTS
INCLUDES FREE LUNCH! Only 8 places available
This course is for anyone who has already completed our Beginner’s Ceramics course. We only have funding to deliver one of these popular free courses, so if you have already completed a beginner’s ceramics course read on to find out what the course covers, and how to secure your place!
Our intermediate ceramics course builds on the key learning and techniques applied at beginner’s level. On our intermediate level course you will combine techniques introduced in beginners ceramics, with an emphasis on exploring themes, developing ideas and producing individual and unique sculptural works using a number of hand-building skills. Examples of the kind of work produced include 3D masks, through exploration of theatre and other cultures. You will also get the opportunity to create soft slab sculptures and coil amphora, as well as getting the chance to work with leather hard clay and slab building techniques. Your tutor will help you to develop your design ideas and planning skills, supporting you to create individual pieces of work to take home with you, and helping you to explore your own independent projects on the course using the skills and techniques we will learn and apply together. The course also provides the opportunity to build on the glazing techniques introduced at beginner’s level, enabling you to create more ambitious, colourful and detailed pieces of work to take home with you at the end of the course.
The course also covers some interesting points of learning around how a kiln works, and the firing process involved in creating finished ceramic items.
This is a five day beginners course being delivered one day per week over five weeks, and not a series of drop-in sessions. Before you book your place, please make sure you are able to attend the full course.
Read on for information on eligibility and how to book.
