Edinburgh Competition Winner Blogpost
We travelled in first class from Newcastle to Edinburgh and it was great for us to unwind on the train and take in the picture-perfect views of the North East coastline, thanks to nationalrail.com. It was our baby’s first time on a train too, so it was brilliant to watch him take in all the surroundings and other people in the carriage with us. My partner and I particularly enjoyed the perks of travelling in first class, as we were provided with lots of tea, specially brewed beers, and sweet treats – the brownies were definitely a favourite of mine!
When we got off the train, we didn’t have far to go at all, as we stayed at The Malmaison Edinburgh City, which was really close to the train station, so we were lucky that we didn’t have to travel too far with our bags. The central location of the hotel enabled us to explore the city and be close enough to return to our room when we needed to. I’d definitely recommend staying at this hotel again, as we had a brilliant time!

Once we’d checked into our hotel, we set off for a day of exploring, and we were instantly greeted by the sound of bagpipes. Due to the time of year, it was a bit chilly, but it wouldn’t be Edinburgh without the cold breeze, however it gave me the perfect excuse to buy a lovely new coat on Rose Street.

We enjoyed walking along the cobbled streets of Edinburgh, where we saw Braveheart and visited Edinburgh Castle, which is beautiful has so much history attached to it. We also took our baby to Camera Obscura, which he loved, and was fascinated by all the sensory lights that were on display.

Edinburgh has a lot to offer food and drink wise, and our favourite places that we visited were Whiski and Devils Advocate where both had an amazing selection of whiskeys to try out.
The hotel and our room were decorated to a high standard, and it had an inviting and luxurious feel to it. We had a great night’s sleep as the bed was so big and comfortable, which was perfect, as we’d had a long day soaking up the best Edinburgh has to offer. Breakfast was great too, and it really set us for the day. We spent Sunday strolling around Edinburgh and did some shopping, before getting ready to head back to the train station and come home.
Throughout our stay, both the hotel and train staff were lovely, and went above and beyond to meet our needs, especially Fiona and Sharon on our return train, who provided us with everything that we needed.
