We have been successful in securing a number of new grants, which means we are now looking to recruit an Art Tutor on a full time basis to support the delivery of our arts and wellbeing programmes for children, adults and families in Sunderland, Durham and surrounding areas.


Job Role: Art Tutor

Working Pattern: Full time

Contract Type: Permanent

Starting Salary: £28000

Salary Band: £28000 - £30000

Hours per week: 40 hours

Reporting to: Operations Director

Start Date: As soon as possible – To be mutually agreed with the successful candidate

About our organisation


We are a not-for-profit organisation that specialises in arts and wellbeing education for children, adults and families in Sunderland and the wider North East area. Our organisation, which is rated Outstanding by Ofsted, focuses on working with and supporting vulnerable adults and those living with mental health conditions and/or multiple complex needs. Each year we work with more than 2,500 local community members to deliver courses in employability skills, specialist arts activities and courses to improve physical health, mental health and wellbeing. We are a small team who all play a role in ensuring jobs and tasks are completed, whether it be teaching, setting up teaching rooms or general administration, we all do our part to ensure the people we work with receive the best experience during workshops and courses. This is a rewarding role where you will be able to support the local community, change people’s lives and progress with your own professional development. This role requires working across multiple sites so access to your own vehicle is essential. During busy periods you may be required to work occasional evenings and Saturdays.


We deliver a variety of creative workshops and courses including ceramics, fused glass, glass copper foiling, floristry, candle making, soap making, diffuser workshops, wax melts, watercolours, lino printing, yoga, mindfulness and meditation workshops and many other arts-based activities to residents in Sunderland and the North East.


About the role


As an Art Tutor, the role and workload changes daily. Working under the direction of the operations director, you will deliver a range of arts-based and wellbeing activities for residents, whether it be one-off sessions or full courses. You will have the opportunity to forge new relationships with learners by providing them with unique and bespoke experiences during our workshops and courses, as well as providing people with the tools needed to enhance their creative capabilities, develop in confidence and promoting inclusive learning environments.


We are looking for an Art Tutor who:


• Can take the lead and use their own initiative

• Can communicate clearly with people of all ages and abilities, both verbally and in writing

• Can set up and dismantle learning rooms and equipment

• Is willing to contribute towards the successful running of our organisation

• Will abide by and follow GDPR guidelines, policies and can act confidentially

• Is willing to travel to other learning sites as required

• Has extensive administrative experience


Main duties/responsibilities include –


• Delivery of arts and wellbeing workshops and courses

• To consult and liaise with the operations director on the planning and design of the course or programme to be delivered

• To be responsible for delivery, induction, assessment, course planning and review of progress

• To refer participants to relevant services based upon an in-depth IAG and liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Lead where appropriate

• To be flexible, dynamic and innovative in the delivery of our programmes

• To deliver high quality teaching using a variety of relevant and up to date methods on a group, independent or online learning basis

• To deliver the programme in a range of environments deploying a range of teaching methodologies as appropriate

• To assess monitor and record the progress of learners in line with the grant requirements

• To design, write and maintain learning resources, making use of e-learning, environmental and digital tools

• To evaluate the programme alongside learners and report the findings to the operations director

• Actively network and build relationships with relevant organisations in the statuary, non- statutory, voluntary and community sectors to recruit a wide demographic of the community to the programme

• Produce good quality resources and activities to support the values of the programme

• Where appropriate liaise with sector organisations within the region to make use of their expertise

• In conjunction with the operations director manage relevant reports and outcomes

• Provide written and/or oral reports as required to the relevant bodies

• Attend any relevant training

• General stock taking of course materials and purchasing materials when needed

• Filing of course documents, data entry and keeping paperwork/files up to date


Essential Criteria


• Minimum of Level 4 Adult Education Teaching Certificate

• Minimum of three years of teaching experience

• Hold an enhanced DBS certificate or willing to complete application, paid for by the company

• Have a strong understanding and practical experiences of multiple art disciplines

• Ability to multitask and prioritise

• Access to your own vehicle

• Experience of working in a fast-paced environment

• Excellent time management skills

• Strong communication skills

• Excellent written and verbal English

• Comfortable with a rota system (working mornings, afternoon, evenings and occasional Saturdays)

• Proficient use of MS Office

• Willingness to adopt a flexible approach to work and daily tasks


Desirable


• Experience of working with glass and/or ceramics

• Understanding of Safeguarding

• An understanding of the arts sector

• An understanding of community development
